(KSL News) -- Thousands of lower-income Utahns don't take advantage of tax breaks designed to help working families. The Governor and several lawmakers want to change that.

They're appealing for publicity for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit and the Volunteer income tax assistance program. A recent study shows there are as many as 40-thousand families in the state who don't realize they're eligible.

Rep. Tim Cosgrove, (D) Murray: "For a family of four making about $19,000 a year, that's about a $4,000 investment to their families. When you're living hand to mouth, that's the difference between child care, health care, transportation."

This year, the Legislature passed House Joint Resolution 23 and allocated $100,000 to create the 'Earn it, Keep It, Save It' campaign.
