This is Lane Beattie of the Salt Lake Chamber with your Utah Business Report.
This morning, 99,400 Utahns are actively looking for a job. That is an unacceptably high number.
During some recent meeting I attended in Washington, D.C., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce top economists—and one of the best in the nation—says he is confident we will not have a double-dip recession.
The fact is, the Utah economy is adding jobs. It's been a steady growth since May of 2010.
At the beginning of this year, the Chamber introduced the Utah Jobs Agenda. This is a 10-point, private sector plan to create 150,000 jobs over the next five years.I'm happy to report… we are slightly ahead of that pace.
So I'm asking you today… please… if it is at all possible… put one Utahn back to work. Add one job. Add more if you can. The best thing we can do to shake off the after-effects of the Great Recession is to put our people back to work.
