SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah lost the chance to play in the Pac-12 championship game as the football team lost to the University of Colorado at Rice-Eccles Stadium 17-14. Observers made their opinions known on Twitter.

The Utes were slow to start their last home game.

Tyler Palmer @Tylernumber21 tweeted, “Wow, I guess the Utes didn't take Colorado seriously cuz it doesn't appear they showed up.”

As Colorado was about to go up 14-0 the Utes caught a huge break and forced a fumble out of the endzone, resulting in a touchback and a first down for Utah.

Robert Jackson @rojackKSL tweeted, “Crazy play there. CU converts 4th and 6 with a 34-yard pass play near the goal line, fumbled into the end zone; results in touchback for Utes.

Sam Strong @SamStrong tweeted, “Utah got that fumble with wrapping paper around it. What a gift to get a fumble in the endzone for a touchback. Utes need White involved.”

Utah struggled on defense and failed to do anything with the ball in the first half.

Lloyd Cole @PortugueseMAMBA tweeted, “Entire Utah team looks like they are still under a Thanksgiving turkey coma.”

Dan Greenspan @DanGreenspan tweeted, “Utah just picked up its first first down with 2:56 left in the first half.”

Andrew Burnett @handybox tweeted, “I guess #Utes don't want to play the Ducks ... they are choking under pressure once again this season...”

Utah went into the locker room at the half down 10-0. Early in the second half the Utes ran into some injuries.

Bubba Brown @BubbaBrown8 tweeted, “White comes out of the game, which is a HUGE blow to Utah's chances of coming back in this game. #Utes.”

Brown later tweeted, “As he was put in the ambulance, Brenner raised his arm to the crowd, a really good sign #Utes.”

After the injuries the Utes seemed fired up and ready to play.

Rob Gray @the_robio tweeted, “Looks like some of the #utes decided to buckle up and make something happen when White IV and Brenner went down. #utah 7.”

Lloyd Cole @PortugueseMAMBA tweeted, “Tauni Vakapuna with a 3-yard TD run and the #utes have pulled within three (10-7). You can feel the momentum starting to shift.”

The game somehow shifted into an offensive battle as both teams found ways to get in the end zone. The Utes could never pull ahead or even tie the game as Coleman Peterson missed two field goal attempts in the fourth quarter.

Austin Firth @firthiefresh tweeted, “That's why you don't count on a kicker to win or tie games. #Utes #BOO #travesty.”

The Utes' game was exciting in the fourth quarter, but Utah could never do enough to get the lead. As the clock was expiring, Peterson attempted a 48-yard field goal which went just to the right, and Utah lost 17-14.

Byron Colindres @BxColindres tweeted, “It's games like these I wish we still had Louie Sakoda. #Utes.”

Torrey Harmon @LehiUte tweeted, “Terrible way to end the season. Very poor performance today. Coleman had a bad day, but the whole team was to blame. Disappointing... #utes.”
