OGDEN -- The owners of ShaverMart in Ogden have never been robbed. But late one recent night, a surprise visitor came looking for cash. Despite his care to avoid cameras, even moving displays to block the lens' view, surveillance video caught the crook as he made his way to the ATM.
But the owners say he failed to notice one minor detail. Posted on a sticky-note, a note on the ATM read, "Out of order."
Del Thredgold is co-owner of this variety shop just off 24th street. He's run the business for more than 40 years.
"It just got connected. We hadn't put the money in it or anything else, so there was nothing in it," Thredgold said. "I don't think it was very profitable to him."
Now detectives in Weber County are looking the thief who has been breaking in to ATM machines for at least a few weeks, who they believe is the same man in Thredgold's surveillance. He usually wears a facemask and tries to stay out of the view of cameras, but like his slip-up in ShaverMart shows, he's not always successful. Cops have grabbed some images of the thief and they're hoping someone can tell them who he is.
Detectives think that same guy got cash from other ATMs in North Ogden, Harrisville, Hooper, and West Haven.
If you have any information on who the thief is, call the Weber County Sheriff's Department.
