HOLLADAY — A 19-year-old woman was killed in a fiery rollover accident on Wasatch Boulevard early Friday.
Two 19-year-old women, cousins, were driving on Wasatch Boulevard near 5100 South just after 4:30 a.m. when the driver lost control of her Chevy Malibu and the vehicle rolled several times, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The car came to a rest on its hood and almost immediately burst into flames. The driver, Laura Blocker, was able to get out of the car but the passenger, Kellie McElroy, did not. It was not known Friday whether the woman died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash or the fire.
Blocker was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
By the time emergency crews arrived, the car was fully engulfed, Hoyal said.
He said speed was a factor in the accident. Investigators said based on preliminary investigation, they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.
