But for a child living in foster care, awaiting adoption, a permanent family is something they desperately want.
Meet 12-year-old Ryan. He's enthusiastic about just about everything. He loves to play video games, read and play baseball. He has the goal of becoming a Navy Seal when he grows up.
Ryan also has a thoughtful side.

Special Interests: Video games, baseball, reading.
Ryan is an enthusiastic, fun-loving 12-year- old with a thoughtful side. He has the goal of becoming a Navy Seal when he grows up.
"I like making people laugh and cheering up people when they're sad, caring about people and love them when they're sad," he said.
Ryan is in 7th grade. He's been in foster care for several years and longs for a permanent family of his own.
"All I want to do is, like, impress people and so I get adopted," he said, "so (they say), ‘I want this one,' instead of moving on to the next kid."
It's something many kids take for granted -- parents and a stable life. But for Ryan, it would be a dream come true.
