A Utah jewelry designer is getting his big break tonight. His work will be featured on the hit show, "America's Next Top Model."
Here's the catch. His work is alive, and, dare I say, pretty gross.
Jared Gold glues jewels onto living, hissing cockroaches. There's a small clip on the bug that connects it to a leash which you can pin on your shirt. This allows the insect to move about freely on your clothes.
Yes, I'm creeped out, also.
I had a chance to get a close look at these "pieces". These things are big. I say there's no shame in being terrified of these things. So, if you see some models crying in holy terror on tonight's broadcast, don't be surprised.
This may sound like a criticism against Gold, and his design. However, I'm actually complimenting the guy. If I would have entered a room, saying the next big design in jewelry involves large cockroaches, I would have been chased out of there. How he convinced the producers of this show to let the models have insects crawling all over them is beyond me.
If this jewelry design thing doesn't work out, I think he has a bright future in marketing.
