SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake man is recovering after being shot, allegedly by his roommate.
Police responded to a domestic violence call near 1500 South and 600 East around 8:30 p.m. Officers learned that a man had been shot at the home and had been taken to a hospital by a roommate.
Sgt. Shawn Josephson of the Salt Lake City Police Department said that roommate told police a third roommate, who shot the man, was still in the home.
When the man, identified as Jeffery Knabel, refused to come out, SWAT teams surrounded the home and evacuated nearby houses as a precaution. Negotiators tried for hours to get Knabel to surrender. He came out around 1:30 a.m. and was arrested for attempted murder and an unrelated warrant.
"It's always a good thing when we can get everybody who is involved in an incident in custody and do that without any injuries or any other problems," Josephson said.
Police say Knabel's roommate is in critical but stable condition Monday morning. They say they are now working with him and the third roommate to get a better understanding of what lead up to the shooting.
