SOUTH SALT LAKE — A 43-year-old Salt Lake man was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-car crash that occurred about 10:15 p.m. Friday night at 700 E. 3300 South. The victim's name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The man was in the back seat of a small sedan that was rear-ended by a Jeep traveling southbound on 700 East. Four other occupants of the sedan were in critical condition Friday night, said South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Gary Keller.

The sedan was pushed into another vehicle by the impact. Nine people were involved in the crash, seven adults and two children. Neither child was injured in the crash, nor was the driver of the Jeep, police said.

Preliminary reports suggested the Jeep driver was distracted but the crash remains under investigation, Keller said.
