ARLINGTON, Texas—BYU suffered its fourth consecutive loss to former conference opponent TCU as the Cougars took on the Horned Frog’s in Cowboys Stadium, TCU won 38-28. Here is a look at some of the games top performers
BYU Return Men: Cody Hoffaman and JD Falslev both showed up to play against the TCU defense that has received so much praise over the years. Hoffman and Falslev had big returns and great catches providing BYU with scoring opportunities.
Falslev took a punt and returned it 67 yards to give the Cougars a much-needed touchdown. He also had five receptions for 35 yards.
Hoffman had a great 52 yard kick return in the second quarter, providing BYU with great field possession and an opportunity to answer back to a TCU touchdown. Hoffman made some spectacular catches and ended the game with four receptions for 67 yards.
TCU Quarterbacks: TCU relied on the arm of Cassey Pachall and the legs of Matt Brown. The two made a great quarterback combination. Brown was brought into the game on two goal line situations and ran in for easy touchdowns both times. Pachall numbers don’t necessarily jump out as outstanding, but he executed his plays well and avoided errors. Pachall was 13 of 23 and threw for 147 yards. Neither he nor any TCU player committed any turnovers in the game.
JJ DiLuigi: JJ DiLuigi had a solid game averaging almost seven yards a carry. While TCU focused on Riley Nelson DiLuigi was able to get to the edge and pick up key yards. He also had some great runs up the middle. DiLuigi ended the night with 11 carries for 69 yards and picked up four first downs in the process. He also had one reception for 25 yards.
TCU Secondary: The TCU secondary had a big game against BYU. The secondary plays with speed that was noticeable to anyone watching. The speed they play with gave them confidence to jump routes and put pressure on the quarterback with corner blitzes, in total TCU had four sacks and two interceptions. Several of those sacks came when Nelson simply couldn't find an open receiver downfield. Safety Devin Johnson came up with one and a half sacks in the game, while Kenny Cain and Jonathan Anderson both came away with outstanding interceptions.
