PROVO -- Police are searching for three men who kidnapped and robbed a woman in Provo. The woman was not seriously injured.
About 8 p.m. Sunday the 36-year-old woman called a man she knew and asked for a ride. The man agreed and showed up at her apartment near 700 South and 600 West with two friends, who the woman didn't know. Instead of driving the woman to her location, they kept driving around and she started to get nervous.
Provo police Sgt. Matt Siufanua says the woman attempted to exit the vehicle. One of the men held her down while the other suspect rummaged through her purse and took some cash. She tried to defend herself by pulling out a pocket knife, but the two men took it as they robbed her.
Thirty minutes later they let the woman go at Footprinters Park at 1350 W. 1150 Southin Provo.
"Footprinters Park is isolated and far away from residences so that's why they probably took her there," Siufanua said. "So, it took her a minute to go from the park and find a neighbor to call police. "
Except for some scrapes and bruises, the woman was uninjured.
Siufanua added, "You've just got to be careful who you hang out with. It's clear she didn't know these guys as well as she should have because she should not have gotten into that vehicle."
Police are looking for a white, four-door 1996 Chevy Blazer with tinted windows.
"We want to find the suspect who drove the car," said Siufanua. "We want to find that vehicle."
They have a good idea who one of the men is because the woman knew him. They don't know the identity of the other two men.
