PROVO — Provo police are on extra patrol near Provo Peaks Elementary School, where they are looking for a suspected kidnapper.

Two children, ages 9 and 7, were walking home from school Tuesday near 200 North and 600 East when they say a red van pulled up next to them. The man driving the van allegedly tried to lure the kids to get in.

When they refused, the van drove off.

"I often say to the people ‘you run and remember,' and that's exactly what she did. She kept on going, and she remembered at least some details to the vehicle's description," said Provo Police Sgt. Mat Siufanua.

The child said the red van has the numbers 801 on the side. Anyone with information about the incident or the van is asked to call Provo police dispatch at 801-852-6210.
