SALT LAKE CITY -- Zombies seem to be growing in popularity and getting into the news more - just look at the zombie protest at Wall Street this week. But now a Utah group is hoping to show the world that Utah has the best zombies of all.

Thousands of people moaning and stumbling down a running path with fake brains hanging out - that's what Craig Middlemas hopes to see in two weeks at the Night of the Running Dead.

The 5k race of zombies chasing humans is a fund raiser for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. They hope to raise $15,000 this year.

Middlemas, the race director, was contacted by the Guinness Book of World Records to see if it could be the largest zombie gathering in the world.

"We're even calling the vampire people. Come and dress up one day as a zombie for us," Middlemas said.

Participants really get into the costumes and acting the part.

"We have some amazing costumes. We had a lady last year who decked out her stroller in a coffin. Had a baby in there as well," he said.

Middlemas said they need 4100 zombies to break the world record which is currently held New Jersey at 4093.

There is also a one mile walk for kids and those who don't want to run.
