BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — Police have released the name of a 42-year-old woman killed in a rollover accident in Big Cottonwood Canyon last week.

On Sept. 22, Pamela Howard was driving a Jeep down the canyon just after 3 p.m. when she made a sudden left turn near 6000 East, drove across all lanes of traffic and rolled into the water, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

Howard was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition. She died later that night as a result of her injuries. Her male adult passenger was treated and released at the scene.

Hoyal said the preliminary investigation showed alcohol appeared to be a factor, but final toxicology results would not be returned for several weeks.
