WEST VALLEY CITY — A 19-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition late Tuesday after being shot in the leg.
The man and a juvenile companion were riding bicycles in the area of 2200 West and 3650 South around 10 p.m. when they got into an argument with what police described as "three Hispanic males wearing blue," West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell said. When the man and his friend decided to leave, one of the trio apparently fired at the pair, striking the 19-year-old in the upper leg.
Powell said the three men then fled on foot. Police set up a containment in the area, but were unable to locate those involved.
The man who was shot was transported to an area hospital in serious condition where he was expected to undergo surgery.
Powell said he did not know what the argument may have been about or whether the victim knew the men. The incident remains under investigation.
