TOOELE VALLEY -- The September 24-25 weekend at Miller Motorsports Park included the Grand National Championship for the World Extreme Rock Crawling Championsip (W.E.ROCK), club races from the Intermountain Region of the Porsche Club of America and Round 9 of the 10-round MMP Quarter-Midget Championship.
Miller Motorsports Park hosted the W.E.ROCK Grand National Championships, where the best of the East Coast competitors met the best of the West Coast competitors to determine the National Champions in three classes at the season finale. After two days of intense competition, where the lead changed more times than could be counted, the final scores crowned Brent Bradshaw as the Unlimited Class National Champion, Troy Bailey as the Pro Modified National Champion and Duane Garretson as the Stock Class Champion. "The Grand Nationals is always the one of the best events of the year, where all the competitors come together and put their battles on the rocks," said Rich Klein, W.E.ROCK promoter. "There were so many lead changes it made it exciting for everyone watching and involved, each course had to be executed perfectly to take the win."
The Intermountain Region of the Porsche Club of America made its annual visit over the weekend, holding club races and Driver Education sessions throughout the course of the two-day event.
On Saturday afternoon, a one-hour endurance race was held, with Peter Spencer taking the checkered flag in his 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 with a 45.891-second margin of victory over the 2005 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Andy Wilzoch. The team of Andy Welch and Alexandra Sabados were third in Welch's 1997 Porsche 911 RSR. Mike Dooley (2006 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) and Al Tiley (2001 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) completed the top five.
On Sunday, there were three races: a 15-minute Fun Sprint, a 30-minute sprint race and a 40-minute "Super Sprint" race. Wilzoch was victorious in the Fun Sprint, coming home just over a minute ahead of Tommy Dean's 2007 Porsche 911 Cup, with Sabados (1974 Porsche 911 RSR) taking third. In the 30-minute sprint, Welch took the win by 34.689 seconds over Michael Zuieback (2004 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup), with Tiley third. Welch also won the "Super Sprint" with a 38.666-second margin of victory over Doolin and Tiley.
