GLENDALE — The body of a 79-year-old man missing for nearly a week was pulled from the Jordan River around noon on Saturday.

Benjamin Aragon was reported missing last Sunday after his dog returned alone from their walk along the river near 2900 South, West Valley City Police Lt. Dalan Taylor told KSL News Radio.

About 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Taylor said a body was spotted near 1700 South and 1500 West, stuck in debris by a railroad bridge. He said the body, recovered by the Salt Lake City swift water rescue team, was identified through clothing and a driver license.

Foul play is not suspected, Taylor said, but police must still review the medical examiner's report. He said Aragon's family suggested he suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

Police had searched for Aragon on foot, on bicycles and by helicopter. They even sought help from Aragon's dog, who last Monday led police to where the Decker Lake canal meets the Jordan River.

There, Taylor said, the dog "entered the water and came back out and whined, and kind of sat there and did circles for us, which gave us the suspicion that Mr. Aragon may have gone into the water at that point."
