FLIP ONE FOR THE GIPPER -- The 100th anniversary of the late President Ronald Reagan's birth is getting the football treatment in September, with teams across the country kicking off their games between September 23 and 26 with the annual Ronald Reagan Commemorative Coin Toss. The coin toss festivities are part of a year of celebration honoring the 40th president. A commemorative coin will be used for Saturday's coin toss before the USU-CSU game.
COACH TO CURE MD -- Both USU and CSU coaching staffs will be wearing Coaches to Cure MD Patches on the left sleeve of their shirts... Coach To Cure MD is a partnership between the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), a professional organization for over 10,000 college football coaches and staff, and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest national charity devoted exclusively to Duchenne muscular dystrophy... One reason the AFCA was drawn to Coach To Cure MD was because of the unique parallels between Duchenne, a disorder which robs young men of precious muscle strength and college football, a game where young men are at the peak of their muscle strength... To donate $5 to Coach to Cure M.D., text the word "cure" to 90999. You can also visit COACHTOCUREMD.org to make a donation.

HOMECOMING 2011: ONCE AN AGGIE, ALWAYS AN AGGIE -- Utah State has won 62.5 percent of its games celebrating the navy and white tradition... Saturday's Sept. 24 Homecoming date is the third September Homecoming in the last five, and is the second-earliest Homecoming in school-history, with only 2007's date of Sept. 22 coming sooner... This is only the fourth time hosting Homecoming in September in school history, joining 2000, 2007 and 2009... The Aggies are 49-29-2 (.625) all-time in their Homecoming game... USU is an even 5-5 in its last 10 Homecoming games, but has lost three of its last four... Here is a closer look at USU's Homecoming games:
AGGIES-RAMS HOMECOMING FAMILIARITY -- Utah State is hosting Colorado State on Homecoming for the the 13th time overall, the Aggies' most common-played opponent when celebrating the navy and white tradition in USU's history and nearly twice than the second-most of seven vs. BYU... Utah State has not played Colorado State on Homecoming since 1966, but the Aggies are 7-4-1 against the Rams on Homecoming, winning two of the last three and four of the last six.
ONCE AN AGGIE, ALWAYS AN AGGIE -- There is more irony of the USU Homecoming theme and the opponent, since as an agricultural, land-grant college, Colorado State was also known as the Aggies from 1899-1958, when CSU was called Colorado Agricultural and Mechanical College, before being named Colorado State University in 1957.
UTAH STATE-COLORADO STATE SERIES -- Utah State is meeting Colorado State for the first time since 1997, but with 67 meetings entering Saturday, the Rams are the Aggies' third-most played opponent for USU, and most outside the state of Utah, as USU has played Utah 109 times and BYU 80 times... USU and CSU first played in 1902, USU's seventh year playing football, and played each other nearly every season from 1911-1915 only not facing each other in 1912 in that span... The two teams were fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes from 1916-37, before joining the Mountain States Conference which later became the Skyline Athletic Conference, together from 1938-61... The Aggies and Rams faced each other in every season from 1911-1979 except in 1912, 1918, 1921, 1943-44 (war), and 1968, even after CSU joined the Western Athletic Conference in 1968... After 1979, the two teams didn't play again until 1994, then facing off again in 1995 and 1997, with the Rams winning the last three, but have not played each other since... Saturday marks the third-straight time in the series that the teams have played in Logan, with CSU winning the last two in Romney Stadium, winning 59-17 in 1995 and 35-24 in 1997.

AGGIES IN BACK-TO-BACK HOME GAMES -- Saturday marks the sixth-straight year that USU has had at least one stretch of back-to-back home games... This is the only stretch of two home games in a row on the schedule this season, and USU has lost the second leg of the two-game homestand in the last two, losing to Fresno State after beating Idaho State, losing to #6 Boise State in 2009 after beating San Jose State... USU had another back-to-back home game stretch in 2009, beating Louisiana Tech after losing to Nevada in the first leg.
TWO-GAME HOME WIN STREAK -- The Aggies are seeking their first back-to-back home wins since 2009 when USU beat Louisiana Tech, 23-21, on Oct. 24 and then after two road games, returned home to beat San Jose State, 24-9, on Nov. 14... USU has only won back-to-back home games seven times in the 2000's: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004-05, 2008-09, 2009, with two of those times coming by winning the last home game of the season and the first game of the next season (2004-05, 2008-09).
AFTER BYE WEEK -- Utah State is coming off its first bye of the season, last playing on Sept. 10 with a 54-17 romp of Weber State... USU is 2-6 in its last eight games immediately after bye weeks...
