West Valley police search for missing elderly man

WEST VALLEY CITY - Police are looking for an elderly man who went missing while walking his dog Sunday afternoon.

Benjamin "Bennie" Aragon, Who just had his 79th birthday, left 2571 South Chesterfield Street at about 4:00 p.m. to walk his dog. The dog returned home, but Aragon never came back.

Everyone has been looking since yesterday and no one has found him," said Aragon's granddaughter Jolayne Miller.

Initially, family and neighbors searched for Aragon, but when he could not be located, police were called.

Police and K-9 officers searched Sunday evening with the assistance of a helicopter, and the search resumed Monday morning, but the man has still not been found.


Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Aragon is asked to contact the West Valley Police Department at 801- 840-4000.

Aragon is describes as a white male, 5-foot-6, 140 lbs., hazel eyes and grey hair. He was reportedly last seen along the Jordan River Parkway at about 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

Police officers will focus their search on the parkway, and will be going into the river to search as well.

"We took the dog out and he automatically just went to the river," said Miller. "He was scratching at the river and he was whining."

Relatives said Aragon was recently been diagnosed with lymphatic leukemia which ahs gone into remission. They also said he has slight Alzheimer's and sometimes gets confused.
