(KSL News) -- Two major traffic crashes in the Salt Lake Valley tonight and both have left victims with critical injuries.
The first accident took place on westbound I-215 at about 300 west. A semi-truck and a car crashed, and the car went underneath the semi.
Investigators say the driver of the Mazda is very lucky to be alive. He was underneath the semi's wheels for about 400 yards, until it stopped.
Police say the truck driver did a great job of keeping his rig upright. Had it tipped over, the car's driver most likely would've been killed.
It took crews a half hour to extricate the victim. I-215 westbound will be closed in that area for a couple hours.
The other accident happened on Redwood Road at about 6200 south. A Chevrolet Impala was northbound, turning onto 6200 south, when a southbound Toyota Camry ran into it. Both had a green light.
One victim from the southbound car was flown to LDS Hospital in critical condition. Two others were taken by ambulance to a hospital. No word yet on which driver was at fault.
