We Americans love pizza. We eat around 350 slices of pizza each second, or 100 acres per day. Children ages 3 to 11 prefer pizza for lunch and dinner above any other food. With 94 percent of the population who eats pizza, this is probably why it's a $30 billion industry in the U.S.

Despite the popularity of pizza, sit-down pizzerias are becoming harder to find. So, if you find a pizza parlor you love, generally you stick with it. At least that's been the case with Lakeside Pizza in Garden City, Utah.

How about a pizza parlor on the shores of beautiful Bear Lake? Doesn't that sound like a recipe for success? Carmen Madsen thinks so, and business at Lakeside Pizza in Garden City, Utah is strong. I'm sure that could have to do with the around 500,000 people who visit Bear Lake every year.

This pizzeria features original recipes developed by Carmen's brother-in-law over a period of 14 years. It's become a favorite for locals and tourists. Everything is homemade including the crusts and sauces. Aside from pepperoni, other favorites include Ranch Chicken and Dan's Request, which has oversized portions of meat and cheese. Let's not forget the famous raspberry shakes and ice cream. Even in the winter people love raspberry shakes!

In the last few years, Carmen and her husband, Mike, who helps with the business, have seen a shift in Garden City's population. There are now more vacation homes than primary residences, 61 percent vs. 39 percent. But this has been a positive change since the Madsens have also seen people using their cabins more frequently during the year, which has benefitted Lakeside Pizza.

They are equipped to handle the many bus tours that come through in the spring and summer and can serve up to 55 people in just 45 minutes. By the way, Lakeside Pizza is very much a family owned and operated business with an owner who has served Garden City for years.
