Prep football: Lone Peak is new No. 1 in KSL Coaches' Poll

The Lone Peak has moved past Bingham to become the new No. 1 5A team in the latest KSL Coaches' Poll.

The Cavemen are off to a 3-0 start but their perfect record will be tested by Cooper Bateman and the Colts offense.

The Knights are coming off an impressive 21-10 road win over then No. 5 Davis. They now prepare for a road game against the No. 1 team in 4A, Highland. The Rams upset the Knights 14-12 last season. The rematch is one of the most anticipated matchups of the season.

The Bingham Miners saw their 26-game winning streak come to an end in California over the weekend. They fell to Orange Lutheran 42-7 on Saturday.

No. 3 Alta fared much better at the Mission Viejo classic taking care of Crenshaw 45-14.

Jordan remains undefeated and ranked 4th in the latest poll followed by Fremont who returns to the poll for the first time since a week one loss to the Beetdiggers.

Top 5 performers of the week
DJ Nelson QB Logan
Nelson continues to put up big numbers each week. He was 24-37 for 323 yards and 6 touchdowns and also rushed for 80 yards and a score in a 56-31 win over Bountiful.Inoke Lotueluei WR Cottonwood
This junior had a big night in a win over Brighton. He caught 11 passes for 250 yards and 3 scores in a 49-37 win.Bryan Engstrom RB Alta
Alta represented Utah well with a 45-14 win over Crenshaw, CA. in the Mission Viejo Classic. Engstrom was a major reason with over 200 yards of total offense and two touchdowns.Sean Barton RB Woods Cross
Barton had a night to remember in the Wildcats 32-31 upset of Mountain Crest. He rushed for two scores, caught 6 passes for 98 yards and another score, and also had 15 tackles on defense. Cameron Carson RB Maple Mountain
Carson rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Golden Eagles to a 38-14 win over Payson. The 2nd year school is off to a 2-1 start.

While Highland continues to hold on to the No. 1 spot in 4A Logan isn't far behind. The Grizzlies turned in another impressive effort crushing Bountiful.

They move past East who is preparing for a fantastic matchup with Fremont. The Leopards are 3rd followed by Herriman and Box Elder who makes their debut in the poll after a 3-0 start.

Hurricane continues to lead the way in 3A followed closely by three time defending champion Juan Diego who has another chance to beat a bigger school Thursday against Skyline.

Pine View moves up to 3rd as they prepare for a huge Region 9 clash with 5th ranked Dixie. Spanish Fork drops one spot to 4th after a tough loss at American Fork.

San Juan remains atop the 2A poll. They are followed by Manti, Millard, South Summit and Kanab. The Cowboys will get a shot to knock off San Juan and their 23-game winning streak which is now the longest in the state.

The 1A poll debuts this week and it's no surprise who is on top. Defending champion Duchesne is No. 1 followed by Monticello, Rich, Diamond Ranch and Altamont.
