Gene Kennedy ReportingTwo severe accidents happened only hours apart in the same intersection. The most recent crash sent a bicyclist to the hospital.
The impact to this bicyclist was unbelievable. When the car hit him in the intersection of 4800 S. Redwood Road, he flew from the south end of the intersection to the north side.
It happened just before 10 o'clock last night. A 20-year-old male was riding his bike when a driver heading northbound didn't see him. When he did see the bicyclist, he hit the brakes, but it was too late.
"It does appear he struck the windshield," authorities say.
Police say neither speed nor alcohol were a factor in the crash. Paramedics flew the victim to LDS hospital where he's in critical condition.
It's a similar story for a 24-year-old woman hit in that same intersection last night around five o'clock. A driver in an SUV says she didn't see the pedestrian in the crosswalk. The driver hit the woman. That victim has also been flown to LDS hospital in critical condition.
The two accidents in five hours prompted us to ask investigators if there's a problem with this intersection, like maybe poor lighting. Police don't think so.
Sgt. Mike Ricketts of the Taylorsville Police department says as the weather gets warmer more people will be out on foot, and motorist need to be extra careful.
