SANDY — A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in a head-on collision near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.

Hoyal said the man, in his mid-30s, was traveling west on Little Cottonwood Road on a bullet-bike style motorcycle when he attempted to pass a vehicle and collided with an oncoming Ford Expedition.

The Expedition immediately burst into flames, Hoyal said, but both passengers were able to exit the vehicle safely and Unified Fire personnel were able to put out the fire before the burning spread.

Police were called to the incident at 8:25 p.m. The motorcyclist died at the scene, Hoyal said.

The two individuals in the Expedition, a father and son, were reported in good condition.
