OGDEN (AP) -- The discovery of a high school ring lost nearly 45 years ago in Utah is stirring a family's memories of its late owner.

Kathy Budrow's 1967 ring was recently found in a desk drawer in the principal's office at Bonneville High School in Ogden, the Deseret News of Salt Lake City reported.

Budrow was a single mother of two who was struck and killed by a car while jogging in Ogden in 1983.

Her brother, Bruce Budrow, said the ring has somehow brought him closure. He believes his sister lost the ring during her senior year.

"When Kathy died, I wasn't able to show my emotions," he said. "But once I got the ring, I took it and went up to the gravesites and had a good talk with my Mom and Dad and Kathy up there."

Art Hansen, who became principal at Bonneville High last year, found the ring after he decided to clean out his desk a few weeks ago. On one side of the ring was 1967 and on the other side was the name K.R. Budrow.

Hansen's part-time secretary, Nick Porter, scoured old transcripts and eventually found Bruce Budrow's phone number.

"It was heartwarming," Porter said of his conversation with Budrow. "It was a great feeling."

Budrow is happy that the ring is back with the family.

"Every time I talk about it, it brings smiles to my face, just unbelievably warm feelings," he told the Deseret News. "The ring finally made it home."

Kathy Budrow's son was 13 and her daughter 3 when she died. Bruce Budrow said he would like the ring to end up with one of them, but that both still have a tough time dealing with their mother's loss.
