SALT LAKE CITY -- There is now surveillance video of a suspect police say kidnapped a woman from a gas station, robbed her and sexually assaulted her. Unified police are eager to catch him.
Lt. Justin Hoyal, with the Unified Police department, said, "We would hope someone would have information about this suspect so we can get him off the street before he does it again."
Police say the suspect pulled into the Smiths gas station at 845 E. 4500 South Wednesday night, confronted the clerk and demanded money.
"He told the suspect they were closed and they didn't have any money left out there. So the suspect demanded the clerk go inside the actual grocery store and get him some money," Hoyal said.
The clerk instead called 911. He told police he also heard a scream come from the gas station area. When police reviewed the surveillance tape they saw the source of the scream, a 27-year-old woman who was filling her car.
The woman had pulled up to get gas. She put in her credit card and started to fill up. That's when the suspect — wearing a black ski mask, hoodie, gloves, and holding the gun — told her to hand over money.
The woman didn't have cash, so the robber got in the back of her car and told her to drive to an ATM.
"He had her pull into a cul-de-sac, where he sexually assaulted her," Hoyal said.
Police tracked the woman using the gas station's financial records. They got her to the hospital.
The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and a mask at one point last night. The clerk and victim estimate he's about 5 foot 9, with a slim build. If you have any information, contact Unified Police. ----
