(KSL News) West Valley police say a man fired a handgun at officers during a deadly confrontation.

The shooting happened yesterday at the 7-Eleven on 4807 W. 3500 South.

Officers had responded to reports of a man sitting in his car in the parking lot for several hours. When they tried to question him, gunfire erupted, though officers won't say who fired first.

The man died on the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending the notification of family members.

The two officers involved in the shooting are now on administrative leave.
