MONA, Juab County — A manhunt is under way tonight in Juab County.
A burglar was caught in the act of stealing from the home of a Nephi police officer. When the officer pulled into the driveway, the thief fled in a truck into the mountains east of Mona.
During the chase, several stolen items fell out of the back of the truck, including a motorcycle stolen in Nephi.
The truck became high-centered and the suspect fled on foot into the brush.
The Juab County sheriff tells KSL News a box of rifle ammunition was found in the truck, leading officers to consider the man to be armed and dangerous.
The Utah County SWAT team is assisting in the manhunt, along with a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter.
Drivers are asked to call 911 if they see anyone hitchhiking along I-15 in Juab County Tuesday night.
So far, police have not identified the thief, but plan to continue searching throughout the night.
