Amanda Butterfield ReportingChalk up another medal for the U.S team, the first in bobsledding for this Olympics, and the athlete who drove the silver home: Shuana Rohbock from Orem. Everyone who grew up playing sports with or against her knew she was destined for the Olympics.
Jamie Salmon and Shuana Rohbock were great friends growing up.
Jamie Salmon: "I know Shuana because I played soccer with her."
And even in her teens, anyone who ever played any sport with Shuana would say this:
Jamie Salmon: "She is the most athletic girl I have ever met."
That's why, when Jamie watched as her old friend was draped in red white and blue on the podium in Italy, it seemed right.
Jamie Salmon: "I was like, 'Well Shuana, that's what I would expect from her.'"
Shuana's athleticism is clear. When young, her club soccer team, Devastation, was the best in the state. At BYU she controlled the soccer field, she was an All-American. And when the soccer season ended, she was an All-American heptathlete.
And according to the U.S. bobsledding coach, Shuana now has a long future ahead of her in this sport. All Shuana can say is, it's amazing!
Shauna Rohbock, Silver Medalist: "It's true you work your whole life for a moment like this and it's amazing, unbelievable."
But Jamie believes it.
Jamie Salmon: "It didn't surprise me at all."
She expects gold for Shuana at the next Olympics.
Shuana's silver is the first medal in a sliding sport for the U.S. Team during these games.
