(NBC News) -- Doctors who wear ties and those crisp white Lab coats certainly look certified, but those same symbols of professionalism and cleanliness could actually be spreading dangerous germs.
The British Medical Association says lab coats many times aren't washed for days, while neckties are rarely cleaned. This provides nice homes for bacteria to multiply.
Ties can also dangle close to open wounds.
