Samantha Hayes Reporting Two extremes of emotion today in Torino. The Italians are celebrating a huge victory, winning the gold in the men's cross country relay. The Austrians finished last and are very upset because of a surprise early morning doping raid that athletes say kept them up all night before competition.

Torino certainly gets credit for rigorous testing among athletes, but after what happened last night, the Austrians are criticizing the way in which it was done.

Emotional Extremes in Cross Country Today

Martin Tauber, Cross Country, Austria: "It was a long night without sleep, and I feel like a criminal, but I am not a criminal."

The Austrians say they have nothing to hide and support drug testing, but they are not happy with what happened last night when Italian police made a surprise raid.

Juergan Pinter, Austria Cross Country Team: "It was horrible for us. We were in our room, the police came in and took our medicines, covered our body."

Other athletes, including American Kris Freeman, heard about the raid before the competition.

Kris Freeman, USA Cross Country: "I think its 100 percent necessary to prevent doping here."

The Americans were close after the first leg but had a disappointing 12th place finish.

Lars Flora, Cross Country, USA: "The last time up the hill, my back seized up and I could barley make it up the hill."

Carl Swenson , USA Cross Country: "it was tough because we weren't up there in the lead pack fighting for a position so we all skied as hard as we could."

This is Carl Swenson's last Olympic Games; he has a good chance in the 50km February 26th.
