It's not often that I can deliver a complete review of a film simply by stating the title and the rating, but here it is…."Superbad," rated R.
That's it. This new film staring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as Seth and Evan, is the story of two somewhat geeky high school best friends who embark on an odyssey to fulfill the request for booze from two popular girls in the hopes that they will be rewarded, sexually.
To simply label this movie offensive and juvenile would be high praise, "Superbad" is disgusting, lewd, obscene, gross….well, I think you get the drift.
"Superbad," is super bad…a must miss, Le Bad Cinema and rated R for…well, everything.
Also out this week, "Death at A Funeral."
At the passing of the patriarch of a rather dysfunctional British family, relatives and friends gather for the funeral. Reminiscent of "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Death at a Funeral" follows the stories of several couples and individuals as they head off for, or prepare for, the somber event.
Adding to the challenges of losing dear old dad and trying to work out their differences, the brothers find themselves dealing with a mysterious, blackmailing mourner-played by Peter Dinklage-who reveals a rather startling secret about their father.
Replete with eclectic characters, all with angst and issues, there are some truly intriguing and funny moments. But, too often, "Death at a Funeral" strays into the gross and overly sexual and sadly, diminishes what is otherwise a smartly written and well executed film.
