Coalville, Summit County — A 32-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a boat propeller at Echo Reservoir.

The Salt Lake County man had been wakeboarding earlier in the day with some friends and had stopped to spend some time in the boat, Utah State Parks Ranger Eric Stucki said. Around 9 p.m. he and one other friend fell into the water.

"They were just 'boys will be boys,' enjoying the evening, horsing around and having a little fun and, accidentally, he fell over," Stucki said.

The man landed near the propeller of the boat, which was running at the time. He sustained cuts to his head and shoulder.

He was transported by medical helicopter to University of Utah Hospital in serious condition.
