SUNSET -- Police have new information regarding the body of a woman found on the train tracks in Sunset. They have identified her, but have only said that she is from the surrounding five mile area.
A FrontRunner passenger noticed the woman's body around 9 a.m. east of 2200 North and 630 West, prompting responses from Sunset and Clinton police, as well as the Davis County Sheriff.
"The person was hit by a train. How many times, we don't know. We believe this could have happened around 10:00 to 12:00 last night," said Sgt. Bruce Arbogast of the Sunset Police.
"That's what surprises me," said neighbor Pete Loomis. "The trains come by here about every half hour. I'm surprised one of the conductors didn't see."
Investigators say she is unrecognizable, and that she may have been on the tracks for as long as 11 hours.
Some questions still remain to be answered, however -- why she was on the tracks and why nobody seemed to see the woman on the tracks.
Police did find the woman's keys and cell phone nearby, and it is believed that this is how she was identified.
It has not been determined whether the incident was an accident or not.
Neighbors informed KSL that the intersection has been a very safe crossing. Most neighbors can't remember a train hitting anything in the intersection for the past 25 years.
More details will be provided when they become available.
