This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Let's face it — people have to leave home all the time for vacations, weddings, funerals, or even business trips. But there are frequently concerns about whether your house will be safe and well taken care of while you're gone and who will take care of your pet. Studies have found that pets are happier at home as opposed to being boarded, and it's more cost efficient to keep them home.
Mike Nakamura can help with that service. He founded his Bountiful company, House Watchers, specifically to take care of your house and pets while you're away. And with summer vacation season in full swing, he couldn't have picked a better time to launch his company.
His services include pet care, turning on security lights, taking out trash, picking up the mail and newspapers and watering the yard. He knows how to make it seem like your home is being lived in while you're away. Research has shown that taking such precautions can help protect your house.
We Americans love our pets. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that most U.S. households have at least one pet. Even with the economic flexes of the last two years, a 2010 survey by the American Pet Products Association found that Americans are scrimping elsewhere to splurge on their pets. This includes hiring someone to watch your pet in your home while you go on vacation.
Mike first started providing these types of services for his neighbors and relatives over 10 years ago. He gained a strong reputation for being trustworthy when watching over someone's house. It didn't take long for him to notice a distinct business need not being filled by anyone else.
So, he founded House Watchers a short time later. His business has been steadily growing through referrals and word of mouth, and his coverage area extends from Ogden throughout the Salt Lake Valley into Park City. Businesses like House Waters are one of the reasons Forbes magazine named Utah as the best state for business in 2010.
