Tom Kirkland Reporting It's day 6 of the Winter Olympics and if you missed any of the crucial stuff from last night's NBC Primetime coverage, we've got you covered.
What a day of ups and downs. It's what makes the Olympics so special, so spectacular, so great and so devastating. You work four years to get here, then your medal hopes ride on one moment in time on snow or ice. Strap in for our highlight reel, starting with the men's hockey team.
Team USA begins a wicked stretch of six games in eight days, just to hopefully get to the medal round. They blew a 2-0 first period lead, but managed to earn a crucial point when defenseman Jordan Leopold scored early in the third period. That's how it finished, 3-3 tie with Latvia. USA meets Kahzakstan today.
The ice was most unkind to USA speedskater Chad Hedrick. His drive for five gold medals ends as Italy upsets the USA in the quarterfinals of the team pursuit. Chad's still a favorite in three other speedskating events.
Congratulations to part-time Utahn Toby Dawson. He worked his moguls magic. A big air climb earned him a bronze medal.
And the crazy fast track at Cesana claims another favorite. The USA team of Mark Grimmette and Brian Martin have won silver and bronze the last two Olympics. But there will be no gold in Torino. They went crashing out of the men's doubles final. Today at Cesana, it's the women's skeleton final.
Also today in Bardonecchia, the Olympic debut of the madness that is snowboardcross. It doesn't look so crazy in training, but in the event the track's packed with races. It's the NASCAR of snowboarding.
Snowboardcross is my new favorite Olympic event. They qualify for the medal event with individual times over the course. The finals will be featured in NBC's primtime coverage tonight.
