Gene Kennedy Reporting Taylorsville Police find a car stolen from a murder victim. Now they hope to find clues that will lead to her killer.
Sgt. Rosie Rivera, Taylorsville Police Dept.: "Just happened to find it... It's a great find for us. We just hope it helps with the investigation."
The victim's car was abandoned in a hotel parking lot in Murray. Taylorsville Police found the car around 11 last night at the Fairfield Inn.
Sgt. Rosie Rivera Taylorsville Police Dept.: Now we can take that vehicle and we can process it for fingerprints. If we come up with one fingerprint, that makes it so much easier to track down a possible suspect, than waiting for DNA evidence. "
Rivera says they have detectives at the hotel looking over security video and speaking with tenets that are staying there.
After asking for the public's help to find the victim's Ford Escort, Taylorsville police spotted the car during patrols last night in Murray.
The car belongs to 29- year- old Sonia Mejia. Police say last Thursday someone sexually assaulted her, and then strangled her at her Taylorsville apartment. She was 6 months pregnant with a baby boy.
Police believe whoever committed this brutal crime stole her car. Investigators say her husband is not a suspect.
Sgt. Rosie Rivera Taylorsville Police Dept.: "We have been able to confirm he was at work, and he does have an alibi, and just the way he is distraught over this whole thing."
A witness has come forward, telling police of a suspicious person seen near Sonia Mejia's apartment close to the time of the crime. Police are calling that person a possible suspect and want to talk with that person. But they don't have a name only a vague description.
