BRIGHAM CITY -- Slightly less than a year after the groundbreaking ceremony of the Brigham City LDS temple, the famous statue of the Angel Moroni was placed atop the near-complete temple's spire.
Rain and winds close to 40 mph at the top of the spire initially prevented the statue from being affixed. But as soon as things died down, the gold-leafed statue was hauled up by a crane, attached by crew, and now looks out over Brigham City.
All four surrounding blocks of the temple site were closed in order to allow an estimated 5000 spectators to view the event, who braved the rain and wind for nearly two hours longer than expected so they could witness an important milestone in the temple's construction.
The Brigham City temple is the 14th in Utah and so far the only one in Box Elder County. The 15th, in Payson, has not yet begun construction.
