Tom Callan, KSL NewsradioAn Ogden city leader has called a special meeting this evening to stem the dangerous tide of the city's growing gang problem.

Ogden city council chairman Jesse Garcia says he strongly disagrees with Mayor Matthew Godrey's call for two immigration agents to crack down on criminal gangs.

He says, "No, I do not. I do not agree with that at all, because all we're going to do again is put fear in people."

He says this is not the time for the mayor to jump on the national anti-immigrant bandwagon. "I've been pulled over before, and I'm not illegal. I'm about the eighth-generation U.S. citizen. "

Garcia says the city, county and the school system must reduce the magnet pull of gangs. The meeting will be held at a community center on Grant Avenue.
