SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Counties and cities could legalize golf carts on roads under a bill endorsed by the House Transportation Committee on Tuesday.
House Bill 280 would permit golf carts to travel on roads posted for speeds up to 25 mph, making life easier in retirement communities and neighborhoods where it's quicker to get around on golf carts than automobiles, said the bill's sponsor, Rep. Carol Spackman Moss, D-Salt Lake City.
Golf carts would be required to obey the same traffic laws as other vehicles and would have to come equipped with headlights and brake lights for use at night.
A similar bill passed the House last year but died before the Senate could debate it. The Legislature's 45-day session ends March 1.
