WEST VALLEY CITY -- A large rock in the yard of a West Valley City home helped end a police chase.

Police say a detective tried to pull over a car around 8 p.m. Wednesday, but the driver took off. Officers discovered the car was stolen and pursued it. After a short chase, the car hit the rock in front of a home near 3200 South and 3750 West and got stuck.

The three people inside the car tried to run, but officers arrested them.

Police say the car was going 45 or 50 miles an hour, so it's lucky no one got hit.

"They were extremely lucky. In fact, the supervisor was about ready to terminate the pursuit because the only way out of this neighborhood is through an apartment complex," said Sgt. Robert Hamilton of the West Valley City Police Department.

Police say they found drugs inside the car. It was stolen out of American Fork earlier in the day.
