LOS ANGELES — St. George native Dia Frampton captured the "fan vote" and advanced Tuesday night on NBC's hit reality singing competition ‘The Voice.'
A beaming Dia Frampton walked the red carpet moments after the news she was America's pick. "It still hasn't registered. It's amazing!" she said.
Dia Frampton, a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from St. George, is half Korean and half Dutch. Her career aspiration has been to be a voice-over actress, but her considerable singing talents may just steer her elsewhere. A life-long bookworm, Dia also writes novels and children's books.
The singer/songwriter says the past two weeks have been stressful but worth it. She credits coach Blake Shelton for helping guild her.
"He's going to take Xenia and I to Ohio to one of his concerts on Thursday, in a private jet. And he said we can sing a song with him on stage," Dia said. "I'm freaking out!"
Despite her enormous popularity, the St. George hometown girl stays humble, refusing to believe the screams Tuesday night were really for her.
"It's probably just my sisters," she said. "The only person that I thought really liked my music was me."
Dia wowed the judges last week with her cover of Kanye West's "Heartless." Her sister, and bandmate, Meg Frampton said watching her was a one-of-a-kind experience for Meg.
"I really saw her come out and be her own person," Meg said. "She could really handle the stage."
Dia won over the judges and the public, as the song shot to the top 20 downloads on iTunes. It also earned her praise in blogs on Rolling Stone and the Wall Street Journal.
"It's inspiring," said Jade Frampton, Dia's other sister. "I play tennis, and I'm in college now, and it's kind of like you want to go further, play professional? When I see Dia do great things, and the band do great things, it makes me want to go the extra mile."
Both Meg and Jade are confident Dia will go far in ‘The Voice' competition.
"I could be biased because I'm her sister, but I just think she did so great and I don't feel nervous," Meg said.
The show tends to keep everyone on their toes. They switch up the format every week, and Dia says she's not even aware of all the details of the coming performances.
