RIVERTON -- A 2-year-old boy was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center as a precaution after falling from a two-story window Sunday.
The boy was standing next to an open window with a screen in place on the second floor of the home at 3472 W. Seefeld Court, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Anthony Widdison. The toddler pushed the screen out and fell approximately 12 feet into the backyard and landed on a window-well grate.
The extent of the boy's injuries was unknown, Widdison said, though he didn't appear to be seriously hurt.
"We flew him (to the hospital) mainly because of the length of the fall, not necessarily the injuries he sustained," he said. "A fall like that with a 2-year-old is pretty dangerous, and getting him to an appropriate facility is important."
Widdison cautioned parents to make sure their screens are secure and to keep upper-level windows accessible to toddlers closed.
"It's important that we make sure all of our screens are securely in place and that there's nothing in front of the windows that toddlers can climb up on to push those screens out and fall out," he said.
Earlier this month, a 2-year-old Sandy boy fell 19 feet from a two-story window and into a flowerbed. He was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center in serious condition but since has made a full recovery.
Two weeks earlier in Midvale, twin 2½-year-old boys fell 15 feet from a window and onto a concrete pad. The boys climbed up to a windowsill, pressed on the screen and fell out — but somehow escaped serious injury.
