(KSL News) -- A warning today to parents of kids ages eight to 18 to keep the computer out of their bedroom.

A study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation found twice as many kids have bedroom computers with internet access than five years ago. Without direct supervision, many of those kids spend hours in internet social clubs instant messaging friends and strangers.

Experts say that's left many kids sleep deprived or targets of online sexual predators.

Bob Sullivan, MSNBC Technology Reporter: "One in five kids, 20-percent, are sleeping two hours less than their parents, and the blame falls squarely on televisions, computers and video games that are in the bedroom.

MSNBC.com has prepared a lesson plan for parents and teachers on how to protect kids from what lurks on the web. It's called the "Red Tape Chronicles" and you can link to them at the top right of this story.
