SALT LAKE CITY — Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man who was caught on video viciously attacking two women inside a clothing store.
On Dec. 22, 2010, a 39-year-old woman accidentally bumped into a man at Gen X, 799 N. Redwood Road. The bump upset the man, however, who yelled at the woman.
"The woman's 20-year-old daughter asked the man not to yell at her mom, at which point the man hit the daughter several times," according to a statement from Salt Lake police.
The attack was recorded on the store's surveillance camera. The man can be seen taking full swings at the young woman and her mother, who tried to stop the man.
"The attack was so unprovoked, quick and vicious," said Salt Lake police detective Mike Hamideh. "The victims were so startled by this. They believe it was unprovoked."
The mother suffered a swollen eye, cut lip and fractured nose. Her daughter also suffered a broken nose in addition to a chipped tooth.
Detectives were looking for a adult Hispanic man who they described as tall with a heavy build. He had a goatee and was last seen wearing a black hoodie and jeans. Because the attack was so sudden, Hamideh said investigators had very little information on the attacker.
Although the attack happened in December, the video was released now because the follow-up investigation on the incident took a little more time than usual. Hamideh said people weren't immediately available to be interviewed.
Anyone with information can call police at 801- 799-3000.
