ALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah punter Louie Sakoda, who has already won a number of preseason honors as a place kicker, is one of just five punters named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list. The Ray Guy Award is given to America's top Division I punter.

Sakoda was recently named the preseason Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year after sharing the award last season as a sophomore, and was also named to the MWC's preseason first team as a place kicker. He finished 13th in the nation in 2006 in yards per punt (44.0) and led Utah to a No. 1 national ranking in net punting (41.6) by placing more than 30 of 59 punts inside the 20-yard line. He had a long punt of 75 yards, which is the fifth-best ever by a Ute. In two years, Sakoda has 14 punts of 50 yards or longer.

The Ray Guy award is presented to the nation's best collegiate punter as determined by a national selection committee made up of sports writers, college football coaches, sports information directors, former punters and members designated by the Greater Augusta Sports Council.

The Ray Guy Award watch list will be updated and expanded during the season, with three finalists attending the Home Depot College Football awards show in Orlando, Fla.
