(KSL News) The Utah Evergreen Council is asking people to check their sprinklers.

The average home uses 48 percent more water for outdoor purposes than needed. That's according to a study conducted by retired BYU professor Dr. Frank William.

The Council says a lot of water is wasted because of broken sprinkler heads, poor coverage or leaks in the system.

Also, don't set your sprinkler system and forget it. Your yard will need less water as it gets cooler.
