SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating the death of a woman at 586 E. 9th Avenue Thursday morning that has been labeled as suspicious.
Officers arrived at the house along with the fire department, which received the initial call of a death at the address.
"When we arrived, the patrol officers noticed something suspicious about the nature of what they found here," said Salt Lake police detective Lisa Pascadlo. "They backed out and we have since obtained a search warrant, and the investigation is continuing at this point."
Neighbors said the woman has lived at the house for the past several years with her teenage son, who was walking around the outside of the house after officers first arrived.
"He didn't say anything. My husband asked him if he was OK. He said 'everything's fine,' and then he walked off," said neighbor Shawna Mullins.
"There's nothing out of the ordinary" at the house, said neighbor Geoff Kaessner, who described the woman as "a very caring and dear friend of ours."
"She basically knows everybody in the neighborhood. She has a dog and has always walked the dog. That's how we met her was on a dog walk some years ago," Kaessner said.
The "suspicious" label "could be something that just doesn't add up," Pascadlo said. "We always go with the fire department on a death call. That is standard procedure for us to do that."
