DUGWAY — Kevin Bushling has joined the search for his son, Joseph, a soldier missing from Dugway Proving Ground since May 8, and plans a full day of searching Sunday with volunteers from Tooele County.

Kevin Bushling spent about 12 hours on Friday searching the area south of Dugway where the car his son was driving was found May 14. Several of Joseph Bushling's Army friends from Dugway escorted Joseph's father and brother on the father's first day of searching.

Kevin Bushling said the group found mining caves and a bag full of blasting caps and dynamite out in the desert, but no sign of his son. The spot where the car had been found "was up a spindly little road that looked like it was meant only for ATVs. It looked almost like the car had been concealed."

The missing soldier's father flew in from his home in Arkansas Wednesday night and spent the day Thursday getting updates from Army officials at Dugway. He said he is not yet satisfied the search efforts have produced even a plausible scenario about what happened to his son, who was due to leave Dugway for Ft. Carson, Colo. the day he went missing.
