(KSL News) -- Hundreds of cross country skiers hit the mountains today for the Utah Winter Games.

These athletes weren't competing for a spot on the Olympic team headed for Italy, instead they were competing to qualify for the National Junior Olympics.

The races started at nine this morning, and every 15 minutes there after.

Those competing were between 7 and 19 years old, and those who qualify will go on to compete in Michigan this march.
